As 2015 draws to a close I thought I'd pick my favourite artistic attempts of the year, one from each month. It was an experimental year for me with lots of playing with new mediums, chalk pastels, watercolours and acrylic painting featuring prominently. I'm probably well overdue a return to graphite soon as my last graphite pencil drawing was a year ago! but its good to try new things and I've especially enjoyed painting with acrylics.
It does seem to me that deviant art is changing and not for the better, the premium price increase is extreme and I'm not sure its worth continuing with, also views and comments on my work have plummeted. Maybe people don't like my new art direction or maybe other sites are grabbing peoples interest now? Many other deviants have mentioned the same thing so at least I'm in good company.
On a positive note I plucked up courage recently and approached some good quality galleries in my area with a view to selling some of my work there, it was quite intimidating as some of the work on show was very good. I was gladly surprised on the positive feedback I received, the timing was poor just before Christmas as both were fully stocked and not taking on any new work , but one offered me a spot in their shop selling prints in the new year, and also there was talk of a solo exhibition in 2016 with them. Its a foot in the door anyway, though I'm under no illusions that I will make much money out of this endeavour. Its a very pleasant daydream the thought of making a living from selling artwork though I must say..
I would like to wish all watchers and fellow deviants a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year!
