Description

I was in a bookshop recently and a book on Caesar caught my eye, some of the statues and
busts of Caesar in particular got my attention (those Romans sure knew how to work stone).
On the way home I wondered if I could use a statue as a reference and try to bring him
alive in a drawing or attempt it anyway.
I found it hard to get a high quality reference photo, so had to look at a few images to help
get proportions and to help with shading, obviously I improvised the eyes and skin texture.
How accurate these statues are to the real Caesar is an unknown but I bet they were very
close. :)

I would say my Caesar is in his mid 40's approximately, he was assassinated aged 55.

I used grey/brown A3 paper and a mix of drawing implements, charcoal/chalk sticks and some
charcoal pencils for the finer details.
