Magpie Woods

One for sorrow, 
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret,
Never to be told,
Eight for a wish,
Nine for a kiss
Ten for a bird

The modern version of the One for Sorrow poem about magpies, there are many other versions with different words, and it came to my mind as I did this painting. During a recent trip to some local woods in full Autumn glory, I noticed a couple of pesky Magpies chattering in the trees whilst I took some reference photos. I felt they would add a bit more interest to my scene, so two for joy it is!

This was painted on A3 size galeria paper in acrylic paint.
