The Fledgling

I recently had a young visitor to the garden, a just fledged crow dropped by and eventually it found a spot amongst some ferns and sat there watching the world go by Took some photos and kept an eye on it, the parents were flying above now and then I think. Though as the evening started to draw in I was worried it was going to be easy meat for all the marauding cats that are in my neighbourhood. So I decided to encourage it to hop on a stick (which it did) and then put it in a nearby hedgerow where it should be safer, I hope he/she made it
My photo wasn't the best, no feather detail but I had a good outline/shape to work with and so decided to draw it tried to test myself by using no references for the background and I feel it came out fairly well, I used a lot of artistic license (I don't live next to a graveyard )

Used A3 bristol smooth board with my trusty 2b 0.3 mechanical pencil and an 8b pencil for darker bits, cleaned and joined the scans with gimp as I only have an A4 scanner, adjusted the contrast and added a border with picasa.
